Kulubá: Dig uncovers large Mayan palace in Mexico
, the National Institute of Anthropology and History said: the Late Classic and the Terminal Classic .
As well as the former palace, archaeologists are exploring four structures in Kulubá's central square: an altar, remnants of two residential buildings and a round structure thought to be an oven. "This work is the beginning, we've barely began uncovering one of the most voluminous structures on the site," archaeologist Alfredo Barrera was quoted as saying by Reuters news agency.
Because of concerns about damage from wind and sun to the exposed site, near the popular Caribbean resort of Cancún, conservationists are considering reforesting parts of Kulubá.
