Leader of the Opposition speaks on two polarising issues at Diggers and Dealers 2024
It's an issue that caused something of a rift between members of the Liberal Party, but Leader of the Opposition Peter Dutton has remained steadfast in his opposition to billions of dollars' worth of production tax credits outlaid in Labor's May Budget.Dismissing the credits as "billionaire tax cuts" back when they were first announced, Dutton said the credits — which are due to begin in 2027 and amount to A$17.6 billion by 2041 — were not a good use of taxpayer money.
The Leader of the Opposition also touched on the issue of mining approvals, support for which he said was a better way to boost the domestic mining industry."The one common denominator in all of the discussions , and one of the huge frustrations from the mining companies, is that they just can't get approvals," he said. "Deals aren't stacking up because of the costs around the environmental processes — and not just at a Federal level, but also at a state government level.
