‘Digital dictator’: Australian media’s scathing attack on Mark Zuckerberg amid axed news deal

Australia’s biggest media rivals have joined forces to launch a scathing attack on Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg, branding him a “digital dictator” who is “bullying” consumers, companies, and the federal government.

The bosses of News Corp and Nine Entertainment have condemned the decision by Meta, which owns Facebook, to stop paying $70 million a year for Australian news content. They warn the decision will impact jobs in journalism and leave Facebook users more vulnerable to misinformation. “It completely disrespects the important work of Aussie journalists, it disrespects our content creators and the companies that support those journalists and those content creators, and it disrespects the Australian government,” Nine Entertainment CEO Mike Sneesby said.

‘Tech Tyrants: Facebook’s War on Australia’ will premiere on Sky News Australia on Wednesday night at 8:30pm AEDT.
