A disabled man suffered a brain injury and a broken jaw after he was attacked outside his home. Daniel Royle, 21, who is five feet tall and weighs just six stone, was assaulted in Blackley, north Manchester on Saturday morning.
His mother Sharon said he was initially attacked at the top of Surrey Road near the junction with Old Road and then targeted a second time outside their home.Mrs Royle, 57, said Daniel had a tooth knocked out and a CT scan revealed he had a brain tissue injury. She added he could not open one of his eyes, was severely bruised and had suffered hairline fractures to his jaw.Mrs Royle, 57, said: ‘Daniel is 21 but has the mental capacity of someone aged 15. He also has a bone condition, multiple exostoses, leaving him with 20 benign tumours.‘He is 5ft and weighs six stone five pounds. He looks like he is about 11 years old. He asked me if he could stay out last night with friends. I wish now I had said no.‘The man attacking him was in his 40s. I finished up getting struck on the hand with the hammer.’ Mrs Royle, who suffered multiple broken bones 18 months ago when she was involved in a road traffic accident in Blackley, said she believed police had footage of the alleged assault.Police said a rubber mallet was thought to have been used in the attack and both the victim and the alleged attacker would be asked to come in for a voluntary interview.Greater Manchester Police said: ‘Police were called to a report of an assault at an address on Surrey Road, Manchester, at around 12.15am on Saturday 28 September 2019. ‘Emergency services attended and a man was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Enquiries are ongoing.’
