Prosecutors seized Guo's $37 million"Lady May" yacht, where former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon was arrested aboard on unrelated charges in 2020 Guo's defense lawyers portrayed him as an ardent dissident who flaunted his wealth as part of his political critique of the Chinese Communist Party , and said that jurors should not rush to judgment as prosecutors had.
Guo left China in 2014 during an anticorruption crackdown that ensnared people close to him, including a top intelligence official. During his closing argument last week, prosecutor Ryan Finkel played videos of Guo pitching investments, including several in which Guo wore sunglasses and stood on a yacht deck.
