The M6 closure this weekend has caused chaos with furious motorists claiming to have been stuck on the motorway for up to 11 hours

National Highways North West was bombarded with complaints after initially tweeting about ‘delays of 75 minutes’.

Helen Buckingham tweeted: “Being told about the closure BEFORE jn34 would have been helpful, I have now been in this mess for almost 2 1/2 hours.” Olive and Jim Black Labs hit back: “Ridiculous as it was a planned closure time to put other signage in place!! It’s hot stationary and I’ve 2 dogs in my vehicle is there no help in getting us moving?”Many tweeted that the warnings for the closure had not been clear enough.

Others shared stories of ruined arrangements, including one who missed Grease the Musical in London, and another who was too late to catch flights to Rome.Amanzi Utilities posted: “Get a grip of this mess. Ambulances on the hard shoulder treating people. We’ve moved 3 miles in 8 hours. Still 1 and a half mile from the exit.”
