The Mets and Braves both advance to the postseason with their wins on Monday.
The New York Mets celebrate in the locker room after clinching a playoff berth with a victory in the first game of a doubleheader against the Atlanta Braves, Monday, Sept. 30, 2024, in Atlanta. The New York Mets and Atlanta Braves both advance to the postseason with their respective wins over each other in Monday’s double header, but that means the Arizona Diamondbacks won’t be dancing.
The Diamondbacks, who reached the World Series last year, needed one team to sweep the double header in order to advance to the playoffs. Now, they will miss with a 89-73 record. Rain from Hurricane Helene forced two games from last week’s Mets-Braves series to be postponed to Monday, one day after the regular season ended. Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick spoke on“I predicted a week ago, when this debacle — at multiple levels — was occurring to have the season end with two games yet to be played on a Monday before the playoffs start, it was ill-advised,” Kendrick said.
“Those teams didn’t have a game scheduled last Monday. They played one game on Tuesday; they could’ve played two games last Monday or two games last Tuesday, and then not been involved in the middle of getting canceled and scheduling games to be played after the season.”Thank you for relying on us to provide the journalism you can trust.
