Cleaning expert Debbie Young reveals a simple and effective method for eliminating mold from washing machine seals using readily available dishwasher tablets. This economical approach eliminates the need for harsh bleach or expensive detergents.

The rubber seals on a washing machine can become a breeding ground for bacteria and mold if not cleaned regularly and properly. This mold not only compromises the machine's sealing abilities but can also shorten its lifespan and leave clothes stained and smelling musty. However, cleaning expert Debbie Young from Scrub Hub suggests a simple and effective solution using common household items.

Instead of relying on harsh bleach, she recommends dishwasher tablets, known for tackling grime in dishwashers, for washing machines as well. Debbie emphasizes that professional help or expensive detergents are unnecessary: 'You don't need to hire a professional to dismantle and deep clean your machine or use any pricy washing machine detergents. Traditional dishwasher tabs are a cheap and powerful option.' To illustrate the effectiveness of this method, she states: 'To clean filthy dishes, cooking utensils, cutlery, and cookware, we combine the power of hot water in a dishwasher and throw in a cleaning tab. This combo is equally efficient at getting rid of residue from the inside of washing machines.' Achieving a mold-free washing machine is straightforward using dishwashing tablets, ensuring this essential appliance remains in top condition. According to the Express, users should ensure their washer is empty and place one or two dishwashing tablets directly into the drum. Adding some water to the dispenser compartment and selecting a warm 90-degree setting for the machine, followed by completing a full cycle, is recommended. After the wash, users can wipe the rubber seal with a clean cloth or sponge, removing any stubborn mold effortlessly. Prevent future mold growth by leaving the door open after washing, allowing the seal to dry completely and hindering new mold formation. Cleaning expert Debbie assures that dealing with mold is 'that simple,' resulting in a sparkling, odor-free washing machine. Debbie explained: 'Set it to a hot wash and let the machine and tablet do the work for you. When the cycle is complete, you can use the machine as usual, and it will be clean and smell great!
