A DEVIOUS distraction thief snatched an 88-year-old's handbag as the elderly lady shopped for her birthday cake in a heartless burglary
Since the March 9 robbery at the Bradford Rd Asda in Huddersfield, Joe said his mother had not been able to shop at the store - too scared to return."It has taken away her independence." Joe, who is in his 50s, said: "It was the day before her birthday and we were choosing her cake, she was so excited.
And the elderly woman's birthday party was cancelled as Ms Zito was left so badly shocked by the snatch.Joe said he was devastated at how the distraction robbery had affected his mother.He today pushed for better procedures in stores to handle distraction burglaries.
