BREAKING: Novak Djokovic has booked his place in the third round of the FrenchOpen with a victory over Hungarian Marton Fucsovics. He joins favourite Carlos Alcaraz in the last 32.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion joins fellow Roland-Garros favouriteDjokovic and Alcaraz, tipped as the outright favourites to win the title in Paris, are on a collision course to meet in the semi-finals should both men make it that far.
World No.3 Djokovic, 36, will next face 29th-seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain in the fourth round. It was a nervy first set for Djokovic, who seemed to struggle in windy conditions on the Philippe-Chatrier court and furiously ranted at his box at 5-5, clearly frustrated at how he was playing before battling back to win on a tie-break.
The Serbian hugely improved and claimed a 6-0 bagel in the second against the word No.83 before impressing in the third to win in straight sets. World No.1 Alcaraz, meanwhile, next faces Canadian Denis Shapovalov, the 26th seed, as he looks to continue his quest to lift the second major title of his career.
