Authorities in Lincoln County, Missouri announced Tuesday they have put a name to the remains found and determined the body was that of Helen Renee Groomes , who disappeared from Ottumwa , Iowa . Her body was found in the river near Elsberry , Missouri .
The remains were buried in the Troy City Cemetery, with a gravestone reading "Lincoln County Jane Doe." Analysis by SEMO showed the victim was likely a teenager at the time of her death, instead of a 30-40-year-old woman.The new estimated age and the DNA sample led the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office to contact a person whose close family member went missing in 1977 and closely matched the description.
