A groundbreaking case report details how a surgeon accidentally 'transplanted' a rare type of cancer from a patient to himself during surgery.

A doctor operating on a cancer patient accidentally cut his hand, and five months later, developed a tumor genetically identical to his patient's. The tumor was found to be malignant and tests showed it was the same as the cancer removed from the patient. This is believed to be a unique case where the doctor likely contracted the cancer from his patient when tumor cells entered the cut on his hand.

Doctors believe this happened because the doctor's body did not mount an adequate immune response to the tumor cells. The case was originally reported in 1996 but has recently resurfaced
