Its sufferers are dismissed, ignored, disbelieved and fobbed off to such an extent that it takes an average of eight years to be diagnosed with endometriosis in the UK. Many, like Isabel Dunmore, simply give up, feeling they’ve exhausted all their options. “After three-and-a-half years of actively trying to seek help, explaining my symptoms and history to multiple doctors, and going for all kinds of tests and scans, I had given up,” she writes.
