The Department of Energy (DOE) is calling for a faster rollout of electric vehicles in the country to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.
"The shift to EVs is expected to reduce the country’s dependence on imported fuel and to promote cleaner and energy-efficient transport technologies," the DOE said in a statement issued on Monday.
The DOE is aiming to launch around 2,454,200 electric vehicles, which include cars, tricycles, and motorcycles, in order to help save the environment and generate investments for a new industry by 2028. According to the DOE, the call for a faster rollout of electric vehicles is in support of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act's initiative of creating an enabling environment for the development of electric vehicles in the country.in the country beyond the mandated 5% mandatory share of EVs in public and private sector fleets as it works on the Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry.
The Department of Transportation, for its part, said it is already working on a roadmap for the shift of the transport sector to electric vehicles.to transport operators in order to help them shift to electric vehicles.
