The Wiregrass Humane Society managers adopt a dog after 1,267 days.
DOTHAN, Ala. - For decades the Wiregrass Humane Society has sheltered dogs and cats until they found their permanent home.
“I see the joy in the animal going home, but also the joy in the potential adopters,” said Ashley Radney, a kennel tech at the Humane Society. “It’s so rewarding.”There’s one dog that she has developed a special bond with.While not friendly at first, José quickly warmed up to Ashlyn, signaling the start of their loving relationship.
“People told me that he doesn’t jump on people or lick people,” said Radney. “I was in the yard one day and he licked my face. Ever since then he became my best friend.”“José got adopted a year ago,” said Brittney Mckinney, the operations manager at the Humane Society. “He did okay but he had a problem with children. The lady had a young grandchild, so things didn’t work out. When he came back here there wasn’t much interest in him.
“Our kennel supervisor Hailey came to me and said wouldn’t it be a good idea if we adopted José for Ashlyn,” said Mckinney. “Of course, I started balling and was like yeah absolutely.”And now his true home is with the people who played a special role in his life.“He surprised us all when he got home,” said Mckinney. “I have a twelve-year-old daughter and he usually wants nothing to do with her. “We got him home and walked him by her and he instantly got the wiggle butt.
