Thair Iqbal, 54, left his Presa Canario mastiff in his garden when it savaged a dog walker walking past his home in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
A dog owner was fined just £200 after his mastiff was filmed bounding over a garden fence and mauling a passer-by.
The frightening incident showed the man holding a small black dog high in the air trying to protect it from the bull mastiff as it snapped at his arm A woman who lives nearby said she saw the aftermath of the incident and that the man, who has not been identified, 'looked like he'd been stabbed'.'It was very scary because you want to protect your children. There's a school nearby, it could have been a child.'
One officer at the scene could be seen holding a shotgun-type weapon with a close-range sight, with a handgun and a taser in holsters The force said parents of children at nearby nursery had also expressed their fears at the animal's proximity to the site.
