A dog rescue centre in Wales is facing a crisis due to a significant increase in dog abandonments. The centre, Hope Rescue, has already seen two litters of puppies abandoned this year, along with other dogs found on mountains.

A dog rescue centre has said it is at 'crisis point' as it experiences its busiest start to a year with a dog being abandoned every other day. Only a few days into January, Hope Rescue in Llanharan, Rhondda Cynon Taf, said two litters of puppies have already been abandoned this year, while there have also been abandonments on mountains. 'It is a real concern for us, the level of neglect and abandonments that we're seeing,' said head of operations Sara Rosser.

She said the 'fallout from the huge boom' in dog ownership during Covid was a factor in people abandoning dogs, as is the cost of living crisis
