The shiba inu Kabosu, the dog behind a viral meme and the dogecoin logo, died Friday.
Kabosu’s owner Atsuko Sato, 62, announced on her blog that the dog died peacefully in her sleep. Sato adopted Kabosu in 2008 and did not know her exact age at the time, but she estimates Kabosu was about 18 years old.
“Today Kabosu, our community’s shared friend and inspiration, peacefully passed in the arms of her person,” Dogecoin wrote on X. “The impact this one dog has made across the world is immeasurable. She was a being who knew only happiness and limitless love. Please keep her spirit and her family in your heart, and most importantly carry her with you as your story continues – we are all fortunate for hers to have touched and shaped ours.
