(UPDATE) THE Department of Health (DoH) has detected its first case of the subvariant FE.1. of Covid-19 in the country.
The DoH said the subvariant is an XBB sublineage that was added to the list of variants that is being monitored by the World Health Organization and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control.The FE.1.subvariant is being tracked for its increasing global prevalence.At present, 35 countries across six continents had detected it.Dr. Rontgene Solante, an infectious disease expert, said 'the subvariant FE.1.
' Solante added.The latest sequencing samples were run at the Southern Philippines Medical Center and the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center Main, Visayas and Mindanao.Results released on May 29-June 12, 2023 showed detection of 'only one case of the variant among samples sequenced.
