People suffering from domestic and family violence will now be entitled to paid leave in order to escape dangerous situations.
Those impacted will be able to access 10 days of leave at their full rate of pay – whether they be full, part-time or casual workers.
The changes will come into force from tomorrow for at least seven million employees in large and medium businesses, and small business employees can access the scheme from August 1.
