DOMINIC Raab today vowed to “fire up” Britain’s trade outside the EU as he embarked on a three-day Brexit charm offensive of the Americas.

Speaking to reporters, Raab said: "For the UK, Brexit is not just about risk management - although that's important, and I wouldn't want to be glib or not take that very seriously - but it's also, and I think our Prime Minister has been very clear about that, about grasping the enormous opportunities of our new found freedoms.

Before the summit, Raab received an early boost when US Republican Senator Tom Cotton said Britain will be “at the front of the queue” for a trade deal after Brexit is delivered on October 31.Speaking as he embarked on the three-day Brexit charm offensive, he said: “I’m determined that we fire up our economic relationships with non-European partners.

And his mission to strike a bumper trade deal with America received a boost when Mr Cotton said a deal could be done in months. But striking a gloomier note, Larry Summers, former US treasury secretary and ex-director of the National Economic Council in Barack Obama's administration, downplayed talk of a quick trade deal.“It needs an agreement very soon. When you have a desperate partner, that's when you strike the hardest bargain. The last thing you do is quit a job before you look for your new one.”
