The actor fired shots at Hollywood and the press over the negative treatment he received during legal dramas with Amber Heard, suggesting his future film career may be coming to a close.
The 59-year-old made the comments during a press conference on Wednesday after receiving a lengthy standing ovation from thousands for his latest movie Jeanne Du Barry at the opening night of the festival.
“Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood? Well, you’d have to not have a pulse to feel at that point like this was all just a weird joke,” Depp told reporters. The star’s long disappearance from cinema had many fans label the new movie a comeback of sorts but the actor didn’t seem impressed by the designation.“Maybe people stopped calling out of whatever their fear was at the time, but I didn’t go anywhere.
“The majority of you who have been reading for the last five or six years, with regards to me and my life – the majority of what you’ve read is fantastically, horrifically written fiction,” he said.
