This satellite image provided by NOAA shows Tropical Storm Debby as it moves through the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024. The peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is just days away on Sept. 10, but it has seemed rather quiet as of late.

Not only that, but much of the tropical Atlantic is very warm, record warm in some cases. And so is the Gulf of Mexico.

The hurricane center thinks it will eventually move deeper into the Caribbean and track westward next week.
