She advised: 'These tips show people storing whole and halved avocados in water to keep them fresh longer.

However, there's no need to despair or dispose of your fruit prematurely - there's a safer method to preserve those avocados. Cross advises washing thoroughly to remove bacteria, drying them well, and using an air-tight container for storage.
