As part of the ECHO's unsolved murder series, we have taken a closer look at the case of Peter Singleton, who was killed in West Kirby in 2003
After dad Peter Singleton was executed at point-blank range by a masked gunman, a police officer told his heartbroken family "don't worry, we'll get them" - over 20 years later, his family is still waiting for justice.
Mr Singleton was described as a "smashing lad" by his family. He had recently got his car dealership business off the ground and was called a "credit to his family". He had built a happy family life with his partner and young son, and lived in a smart flat on the edge of West Kirby, surrounded by woodland.
Heartbreakingly, Mr Singleton's dad John McAlnerney died three weeks after the shooting from a heart attack. It was believed to be brought on by his son's death, and the family held a double funeral. Mrs Singleton said the shooting had scarred little Connor for life. Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Walsh, who headed the investigation, told an inquest in October 2003 that Mr Singleton and Ms Quinn had arranged to meet outside his flat. DCS Walsh said: "Lesley Quinn was first to arrive and she phoned Mr Singleton again to see how long he would be.
His mum added: "These people are cold-hearted and sick. They shot Peter in front of his baby son, who still now talks about the naughty man who killed his daddy. Please help - someone must have seen something."
