Donald Trump has waded into the independence debate by saying he hopes the UK “stays together”. The former President, who has a chance of winning the US election next week, rambled on the constitutional issue during a podcast interview this month.
He then referred to the 2014 referendum: “You know, they tried to break up Scotland from the rest of the empire, so to speak. And it made it by about like a half a point. They kept it together. So I hope it stays together. I hope it always stays together.” Trump is in a tight race with Vice-President Kamala Harris for the presidency.
