BREAKING: Donald Trump praises non-existent Aids vaccine during police reform speech
Trump said: ‘Before the end of the year I predict we will have a very successful vaccine, therapeutic and cure. We’re making tremendous progress. I deal with these incredible scientists, doctors very closely.
‘I have great respect for their minds. They have come up with things. They’ve come up with many other cures and therapeutics over the years…Trump then realized he’d made a mistake, and made a rambling attempt to correct himself, saying: ‘Or the Aids, and the as you know theres various things, and now various companies are involved and the therapeutic for Aids.
Tuesday’s speech saw Trump unveil a new executive order on police reform, which will see police departments across the US given funding for an independent audit on their professionalism and safety levels. Trump also announced a ban on chokeholds and focus on giving officers less deadly weapons to tackle suspects. He spoke after the May 25 death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police officer Derek Chauvin triggered worldwide Black Lives Matter protests.
The president also used Tuesday’s speech to hit out at China over the ‘plague’ of coronavirus, and claim the devastated US economy will be back to normal within the coming months.
