In his first address after his arraignment in the classified documents case, former President Donald Trump said the boxes of records had ‘all types of personal belongings’.

‘The Espionage Act has been used to go after traitors and spies and has nothing to do with a former president legally keeping his own documents,’ said Trump, adding that the Presidential Records Act was not mentioned in the ‘ridiculous’ indictment.

Trump walked out to cheers from his supporters at his New Jersey golf club hours after surrendering at a Miami federal court. ‘God Bless the USA’ played in the background as Trump emerged at 8.45pm to and was greeted with ‘USA!’ chants.
