The Dothan City Commission is expected to appoint Assistant City Manager Randall S. Morris as interim city manager in a called meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday, April 22, in
the city commission chambers.
Cowper, who joined the city in 2019 after the retirement of former City Manager Mike West, came under fire in the wake of a controversy over an after-school feeding program administered through the city’s Department of Leisure Services. People are also reading… In a 4-3 vote Tuesday, the panel declined to extend the contract despite several residents and business leaders speaking in support of Cowper, pointing to the city’s successes during his tenure. Since Tuesday, an online petition calling for Cowper's reinstatement has gained several hundred signatures.
Cowper was recently a finalist for the city manager position in Destin, but another candidate was offered that job.
