“We always preach to them, ‘How are you going to respond to adversity when it comes?’ because it’s going to happen,” Dothan coach Joe Nelson said. “You can’t just lead in every game and go up … it would be nice if you could … but we always preach to our guys that you have to face adversity head on.” Not long after, Dothan goalkeeper Blake Rouse made a great diving save on a shot from Jonaton Alonzo – one of many terrific saves by Rouse on the night.
“We’ve been struggling scoring goals, so we tweaked some things on offense and we put some new guys at new positions and it awesome as a coach seeing that fall into place and seeing it actually work on the field,” Nelson said. “That was something we needed,” Dothan coach Haley Williams said. “I had told our midfielders at halftime that if the ball came out to them and they felt comfortable enough, they had the green light to shoot. I’m glad she took that chance.”
