The last day to turn in quilt squares is July 1.
Anyone ages 3 to 18 can go to DHCLS locations and request a square to draw on, which will be sewn onto the big quilt. The library’s ‘Lit Quilt’ is made up of squares that people, ages 3 to 18, can draw on. For those who would like to decorate a quilt square, go to any DHCLS location and request for one.
Kristin North, the Assistant Director of Programs and Outreach for DHCLS, will sew the squares onto one big quilt. North got the idea to do a collaborative quilt because her 6th grade teacher made quilts out of squares students decorated. Now, she enjoys getting to see all the decorated quilt squares by children she’s met.
“It’s fun. If they’ve got their name on it, I’m like, ‘I know they love that book or that’s their favorite character,’ so it kind of puts a personal touch to it,” North said.People interested in decorating a quilt square are asked to read the specific directions given when you request a quilt square to make sure the square fits the restrictions to get sewn onto the quilt. The library is adding onto their summertime fun by offering many more events and programs for the public.
