As crime scene specialists trawled a Longsight street for evidence in the wake of a double stabbing, Horrified neighbours watched on. People on Rushford Street and adjoining Purcell Street spoke of their shock after a teenager and a man were knifed.
An investigation is underway. Purcell Street remained taped-off as uniformed officers, CSI specialists and plain clothes detectives went about their work. "It's normally really quiet around here... a lot of families. Nothing like this really happens - that's why it's so shocking." Francesca Alffi has lived on Rushford Street for two years. The 52-year-old said: "We were having dinner when my son noticed police cars outside and blue lights through the window.
Detective Inspector Terina Arthern, from GMP's City of Manchester division, said yesterday: "We have launched an investigation, and we are following several lines of enquiry to establish the timeline of events which led to two young men being injured tonight.
