Former Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross is using a £25,000 donation to fund a political office in the Moray constituency, the seat he lost last year. The office will serve as a base for elected Moray Tories and is not funded by the taxpayer, according to the Scottish Conservatives. The move has sparked concern among some local Conservatives who believe Ross intends to use the office to prepare for his re-election bid to Holyrood next year.

Former Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross is using a £25,000 donation to fund a political office in the Westminster seat he lost last year. The MSP is spending the cash provided by the Scottish Tory chairman to fund a “base” in the Moray constituency.

Ross, an MSP for the Highlands and Islands, led his party for four years until he was pressurised into quitting last year. His leadership was dogged by criticism over his decision to double job as an MSP and the MP for Moray at the same time. It has now been confirmed he has used the cash to repurpose his former MP office in Forres into a political base for elected Moray Tories. The office has “Douglas Ross MSP” and his parliamentary email address as main signage but the Tories say the office is not for Holyrood work.

“The donation has been put towards funding the office in Forres. However, the office in Forres is being used as a base for Moray Conservative representatives and as such has no Holyrood or Parliamentary branding on the office, meaning taxpayers will not be covering any costs.”
