An intensive multi-day operation in Melbourne has led to the arrest of 28 people linked to high-profile youth gangs, along with the seizure of multiple dangerous weapons including machetes, rifles and shotguns.

As part of Operation Alliance, a joint search mission was executed in Melbourne’s south-east last week with a range of local and specialist police forces getting together to hunt the state’s most violent criminals.

Picture: Victoria Police.Along with targeting known youth gang offenders, several new affiliations with at least seven gangs around Melbourne were uncovered during the operation. Greater Dandenong, Casey, and Cardinia Superintendent Jo Stafford said police would “continue making life as difficult as possible” for people who associated with and engaged in gang activity.

Operation Alliance was launched in September 2020 to exercise control over the rampant growth in youth gangs across Victoria.
