Dozens of Morehouse College staff have voted against giving President Joe Biden an honorary doctorate amid protests at universities around the country over his handling of the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.Some 38 faculty members voted against giving the president an honorary doctorate, while about a dozen abstained from the vote ahead of his visit to the Atlanta-based private university on Sunday.
'Morehouse President David Thomas responded to criticism in an interview with the Associated Press, saying that the emotions around the speech made it all the more important that Biden speak.'In many ways, these are the moments Morehouse was born for,' he said. 'We need someplace in this country that can hold the tensions that threaten to divide us. If Morehouse can't hold those tensions, then no place can.
