Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has refused to confirm reports a boat carrying Rohingya refugees that capsized this week off the coast of Indonesia - triggering a frantic rescue mission - was headed for Australia.

Speaking to the media on Friday as he met with victims of the 2022 floods in Eugowra, NSW, Mr Albanese said the Australian Border Force's Operation Sovereign Borders were aware of the rescue mission. When asked if the boat was heading to Australia, Mr Albanese said it was “unclear” and that OSB was in place to carry out its function.
