A newly-completed revetment wall project in Manapla, Negros Occidental now shields coastal communities and safeguards farmlands from perennial flooding, the Department of Public Works and Highways said on Friday, Nov. 18.The new structure is located at Barangay Punta Mesa and it has a total funding amounting to P44.9 million, according to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno.
Bueno said the flood control project will help to prevent erosion along river banks and roads in the coastal barangay and its neighboring communities. “The revetment wall will safeguard the lives, properties, and livelihoods of approximately 8,000 residents who are surrounded by different bodies of water, including the Guimaras Strait,” said Bueno.Work scope included the construction of a 1.16-kilometer, 3-meter-high stone masonry structure along Dapdap River.
“The completion of this project is a testament to our commitment to ensure that people who live near rivers, creeks, and other bodies of water are protected from the effects of potential flooding, erosion or water overflow,” Bueno noted.
