A drag artist from Co Antrim was attacked by a group in Belfast, who hurled homophobic slurs and physically assaulted him. The attack resulted in multiple broken bones and teeth. The victim managed to escape and hide, but the group continued to search for him, shouting slurs.

Anthony Mulholland, 19, from Antrim, was walking with a friend past Connswater Shopping Centre in East Belfast at around 7pm on Saturday, October 21, when they were approached by a group of young people who began to call them homophobic slurs and threaten them with fireworks.

Anthony told Belfast Live: "There were easily about ten men there and probably more but at that point, I was already disorientated. That's when they began calling me slurs and three or four of them took turns striking me to my face which resulted in five broken bones and broken teeth. Anthony, who performs in Belfast under the drag name Syren Kalls, said they have been blown away by the support they have received since the incident. Posting on social media, Anthony has since highlighted that incidents such as this show the importance of Pride events throughout the city.

Chief Inspector Rosie Thompson said: “Our officers received a report that a man had been assaulted by a group of people in the Bloomfield Avenue area.
