Drag Race's Jinkx Monsoon lands huge new role
"I think what I'm most proud of – and this honour doesn't belong to me, but it belongs to all drag queens, all queer performers being that representation in the world that we were talking about," she said.
"When a parent of a queer child comes up to me and tells me that they still have their child because their child felt less alone in the world and less ostracised in the world because of the representation they were able to see in their life – that, to me, feels like something to be very proud of. "That just living my life unapologetically, and living my life truthfully and in the open, has been able to help people I don't even know with very big struggles.
"So I have lots of things to be proud of, but I do think that queer artists should be proud that just being out there, doing what we love to do in an unapologetic fashion, has more impact than just making people laugh and smile. We come for the laughs but we stay for the impact."
