NRL: Departing star Jarome Luai has opened up on how tough it's been leaving the Panthers, as he and his teammates celebrate their 4th straight Premiership.
The Parramatta Eels’ decision to allow skipper Clint Gutherson to talk to NRL rivals has thrown the race for his signature wide open.
The Dragons have Tyrell Sloan as their incumbent No.1, but there are doubts around his future at the club due to his size and defensive issues.Gutherson could potentially be used in the centres or at fullback for the Dragons, but a smokey position could be five-eighth. Gutherson is the type of effort player that Benji Marshall needs to help turn around the club’s woeful defence at times.
James Tedesco will be the Roosters’ fullback until he retires, but there could be a spot for Gutherson in the centres or even at five-eighth with Luke Keary moving on. The Bulldogs need to improve their forward pack and their front row in particular, but if Gutherson was an option he would be worth pursuing given his versatility in covering fullback, the centres and the halves. The Titans have been historically more interested in bolstering their pack at the expense of their spine in recent seasons, but Gutherson would be a handy acquisition.
Former Wallaby Carter Gordon will need time to adjust to the 13 man game and Gutherson could be the perfect man to help him learn the ropes.
