Two men were arrested following a high-speed car chase in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester, after a knife-point robbery at a Tesco Express in Hadfield. The chase involved unmarked police cars, a helicopter, and police dogs, with the suspects eventually abandoning their vehicle on tram tracks.

Try MEN Premium NOW for just £1 The trouble first began miles away, as GMP's Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit said they were made aware of a knife-point robbery which took place at a Tesco Express in Hadfield near Glossop earlier in the evening. The force said the offenders took cash and tobacco from the premises while threatening staff with a knife. No-one was hurt in the incident, but three men were said to flee the scene in a dark grey Audi at about 7:15pm. Officers identified the vehicle 'likely to be involved in the incident' and then deployed across the force to await its return to Greater Manchester. The car was spotted in Wythenshawe and followed by police, before it began to make off on the Broomwood estate around 9pm. Police pursued the vehicle throughout Wythenshawe, which at points reached speeds of more than 80mph in a 30mph zone. The vehicle was eventually abandoned on tram tracks at Benchill tram stop, after which two offenders attempted to make off on foot, pursued by officers and a police dog. A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and robbery, and a man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of robbery. Both men have been recalled to prison, according to GMP. Sergeant Bobby Nasim from the TVIU said in a statement: 'As soon as we were made aware of the incident in Derbyshire and the route that the Audi was making, we had a fair amount of information available to us that it would be returning to Greater Manchester. 'The team worked together and deployed to strategic locations, trying to second guess based on experience and local knowledge where the vehicle may enter our patch, as soon as it did and we got the confirmation it was in Wythenshawe, we struck. “The driver of the vehicle showed complete disregard for other road users while he was trying to make off from our officers, we’re very lucky that we aren’t dealing with a serious road traffic collision due to his actions. “We take incidents such as these incredibly serious, and we will relentlessly tackle anyone that feels like they are above the law.' The third man involved in the robbery remains at large, according to Derbyshire Police. Detectives from the force want to hear from anyone driving between Hadfield and Wythenshawe who may have dashcam footage of the Audi - registration beginning GP57 - driving in an erratic manner.
