Stunning photos taken in the Scottish Highlands just 24 hours apart illustrate the dramatic weather shift from a freezing cold snap to unseasonable warmth. Temperatures soared by over 30C, melting away the snow-covered landscape.

Stunning Highland pics taken 24 hours apart show January’s incredible weather swing from bitter cold snap to unseasonable warmth.

But just 24 hours later, a second image reveals virtually all the snow had melted. The remarkable turnaround came as, in some parts of the Highlands, temperatures swung by more than 30C from a freezing low point of -19C to 13C in the space of a few days. “The road towards Torridon took us up past the viewpoint at Kinlochewe - it looked absolutely brilliant. I couldn’t believe it when we got up to that viewpoint again in 24 hours - I was astounded, there was no snow. It had all gone.

With the recent cold snap preceded by the warmest Christmas morning on record, the wild winter swings are set to continue with another freezing spell potentially hitting Scots with up to six inches of snow in the last week of January.
