Driver tells jury he was 'fighting for his life' moments before girl, 16, died in horror crash
A driver has told a jury that he went into ‘survival mode’ and was 'fighting for his life' after being chased by a BMW moments before he crashed into a student in Oldham.
Giving evidence, Mr Choudhury denied 'racing' down the road and told jurors that Mr Rahman had been pursuing him in his BMW 3 Series after he allegedly sent him threatening messages on Instagram. He said he recalled a car doing a u-turn and pulling up side-by-side at the lights next to him, and realised it was Mr Rahman. He told the court that he didn’t know what was said, but that Mr Rahman threatened him.
“I’m trying to get as far away as possible from him. I’m fearing he is going to kill me. He already blocked me off, I was doing everything I could to get out of this situation.“I felt like it was bumper to bumper. I was driving away, I was speeding up in case he overtook me and blocked me in again.Mr Choudhury said didn’t see Mr Rahman turn off the road because he was ‘concentrating’ on what was in front of him.
He said: “I couldn’t believe it. I was shocked, I didn't expect for a girl to end up in that situation, I was fearing for my life, I didn’t intend for anyone else to get involved.
