Callum Rycroft's father has previously been jailed for manslaughter
Shahid Ilyas, 48, was acquitted after jurors deliberated for an hour and 14 minutes. He hit Callum Rycroft on the motorway in West Yorkshire.
Mr Ilyas, of Moorfield Chase, Farnworth, Bolton, went on trial at Bradford Crown Court accused of dangerous driving. Prosecutors told the court that Mr Ilyas was not responsible for the Callum's death. Jurors found him not guilty of the charge and he walked free. As he gave evidence to the court on Friday, Mr Ilyas described himself as a "broken man".
Asked about the state of his shattered windscreen, Mr Ilyas said: “I had enough view to see where I was going.” He told the court that he rang the company which hired him the car when he reached the garage, and admitted he told them that he thought he had hit an animal.
