'This clearly isn't right'
A business owner successfully appealed a 'stupid' parking ticket over a confusing street sign - then received another as he returned to the spot with the Manchester Evening News.
But as the pair spoke on Hibbert Street, they realised Bob's car had been issued a penalty charge notice yet again. "This clearly isn't right," said Bob. As Bob returned to Hibbert Street days later, he thought he had found an ideal spot which would not fall foul of the parking restrictions, in front of the sign - yet he still received a ticket. Bob challenged the ticket, sending photos to Manchester council showing his car parked several feet away from the sign.
He addressed the issue with the wardens, who suggested the council had been right. "It all seemed a bit silly," Bob said. "I said 'I shouldn't have a ticket parking here', and they said to appeal against it." Bob took the case to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal, with the council uploading 23 files as evidence to support its case, including a photo showing the front of his car in which the 'past this point' sign was not visible. But following Bob's response, Manchester council chose not to contest the appeal.
