A woman with a 2-year-old child in the car struck a COTA bus stop after a short police chase Friday morning.The woman, 20-year-old Raeshawa Pippen of Columbus, reportedly backed into a deputy's cruiser at a gas station at 2727 Cleveland Ave. while he was impounding an unrelated vehicle, the sheriff's office said.
A chase ensued down Cleveland Avenue with speeds up to 90 mph. The sheriff's office said the deputy did not know a child was inside the car.Five people were in the car, including an infant who was taken to a hospital as a precaution.Pippen is charged with felony fleeing and child endangerment, and more charges may be coming.
"Had the deputy known there was a child inside the vehicle, the deputy would not have started the pursuit," the sheriff's office said. None of the occupants had a valid driver's license, and the owner of the car was not the driver. The child was in a car seat.
