Experts have warned that drivers could face fines of up to £80 if they leave their cars 'unattended' on their driveways
UK motorists face an £80 penalty if they leave their car "unattended" on driveways with the engine running during the current snow storm, in a new effort to tackle crime. Vehicle owners are also being alerted of a burgeoning 'frostjacking' trend by thieves amid the icy conditions, reports Birmingham Live.
The motor trade experts urge that if you must warm up your vehicle or de-frost the windows, then it's best to remain in the car while doing so. They continue to say, "Thieves can bypass locks or break windows quickly to gain access if you're away, even with the doors locked." They caution that all too often, "More than often, thieves will patrol the streets looking for easy opportunities, so don't make it easier for them." Drivers may also incur fines ranging from £20 to £80, as idling an engine unnecessarily is a contravention of the Road Vehicles Regulations of 1986.
