Hundreds of thousands of drivers are at risk of disqualification if they make the mistake.

A road safety charity has warned that hundreds of thousands of drivers are at risk of being banned from the roads if they touch their mobiles behind the wheel.

Back in 2017, the punishment for illegally using a mobile phone whilst driving was toughened, and virtually all use of hand-held mobiles on UK roads is banned. Top Trending Stories Today A freedom of information request was sent to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency and the analysis was shared with the PA news agency.

“Anyone with six points on their licence that is tempted to text or take a selfie on their phone is not only risking a ban but is a potential danger to themselves and other road users. “Thankfully, education and training courses can play a role in making people safer drivers, along with changing behaviours and attitudes.“The worrying jump in the number of people with points on their licence should be a wake-up call to the Government to roll out new enforcement measures and publish their updated road safety strategy.”
