A major new study is being conducted to investigate the effectiveness of new driving test assessments for older drivers
New details have surfaced regarding the potential introduction of driving test assessments specifically targeting over-60s. Campaigners have recently released an update on proposed evaluations for elderly drivers, as authorities deliberate significant alterations to current driving regulations.
Authorities are now considering the viability of implementing a "standardised mature driver assessment" procedure that could be more broadly applied, according to reports from the Express. The comprehensive study is expected to span "a couple of years" and will culminate in a detailed report that may set forth recommendations on how to deploy a uniform mature driver assessment throughout the country.
Currently, DVLA regulations require drivers only to reapply for their licence when they turn 70 and to inform the agency of any health issues. Despite this, there's considerable backing for a more stringent testing process to ensure older drivers remain roadworthy in their golden years.
