, the FIA Single Seater Technical Director, Nikolas Tombazis, announced the sport’s intent to change how DRS works. During the upcoming season, Tombazis has stated that we will see changes to some DRS zones, saying: “In some races, we may well need to actually reduce the DRS zones. We don’t want overtaking to be, as we say, inevitable or actually easy. It still has to be a fight.”
In fact, Tombazis believes that a DRS-powered overtake with the other car unable to fight back is “actually worse than being at the back and fighting.” He also admitted that the FIA still needs to find “the right balance.”Since Tombazis only stated that “some races” will see reduced DRS zones in F1 2023.
